The Wakefield District Children and Young People’s Health Survey was previously known as the School Health Survey. The 2026 survey was carried out with children in Year 5, Year 7, Year 9, and Year 12 who attend schools across Wakefield District. 7,400 pupils and students across 96 different schools and colleges took part in the survey, which ran from January to June 2026.
The Wakefield Council Public Health service have used a health survey for children and young people every two years since 2009 as a way of collecting robust information about young people’s health, wellbeing, and lifestyles.
The results of the 2026 survey are available in the report shown below. Most participants completed the survey at their school or college. For the first time this year, we engaged with children who are electively home educated through specific organised events at local Council venues. Due to the small number of participants, results are not shown for the population in this report. However, this marks the beginning of a longer-term aspiration of engaging with the home educated population, strengthening relationships and gaining a greater understanding of their health and wellbeing needs.
Year 12 findings have not been included in this report. This is because the schools and colleges that participated in the survey did not provide sufficient representation of the wider Year 12 population across the district.
Participating schools and colleges receive their own report. Local commissioners can request bespoke analysis from the Public Health Intelligence Team.
