?% of working age residents (? people) are claiming key out of work benefits (?), compared to ?% and ?% for the Leeds City Region and England respectively. The trend over time shows that benefit claiming has reduced sharply and has fallen below pre-downturn levels (see graph below).

In ?, there were ? people out of work and claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Universal Credit (for unemployment) (UC) in Wakefield. This number is very similar to that seen a year ago, although within the year numbers increase and decrease in response to seasonal employment patterns. Among young people aged 18 to 24, ? were claiming JSA/UC.
